Theresa Frölich
A Semi-Spiritual Thing
edited by Hildegund Amanshauser. What do the perfect female body, the 'everhard cock' and the Holy Spirit, a paradise landscape and the Mother of God have in common? They are all part of a world that exceeds our everyday material existence and its linear time. They signal wishes and desires as well as fears and horrors. These scenarios exist in fantasy, in myths, in religion and on the internet. Theresa Frölich's works do also deal with these topics. In her imagery, she recycles media images – mainly those from the virtual Second Life.
Theresa Frölich works spatially. Even if she places paintings on the wall, the intervene in space. Her technique belongs to the oldest cultural techniques: stretching threads and stitching. The way the threads are braced within the picture, within the space, Theresa Frölich establishes connections to other disciplines, artists and theorists. Similar to how she links found pictures, she also associatively creates collages of scientific findings: networks which can be found pictorially in her thread structures.
With texts by Hildegund Amanshauser, Verena Kuni and John Hartle.
