Seeing Is (Not) Believing

The monographic publication Seeing Is (Not) Believing gives an insight into Sladjan Nedeljkovic’s work over the past ten years. As hinted by the title Nedeljkovics’ work deals with mechanisms of perception; Questions like "What do we see and how do we interpret what we see? What is visible, what stays hidden?" underlay his artistic practice.

By arranging the work groups loosely throughout the book the works are reflecting upon each other, allowing a complex network of meanings to unfold. Starting point of Nedeljkovics’ works are images: private or public, printed or moving, remembered or real. Making use of images of different sources the borders between fictionality and reality, information and manipulation, subjectivity and objectivity are constantly transgressed.

The book is published on the occasion of of the solo exhibition 'ÜberBlicke' at Galerie im Saalbau Berlin, as a cooperation by the cultural department district Neukölln, Berlin and Kunsthaus Zug. With texts by Dorothee Bienert, Irene Müller and a conversation between Matthias Haldemann and the artist. Supported by Pro Helvetia, Schweizer Kulturstiftung.
