Die Geburt der Hygiene / The Birth of the Hygienic
In his works, Alexej Meschtschanow uses steel and steel tubing as a symbol of modern design. Combining readymades and original sculptures to the ends of a new synthesis, his objects embody a strategy of critical intervention in discourses advancing an extended definition of art. They both illustrate and comment on recent tendencies by which design objects – as objects possessing a clear functional value and focused use – have become firmly integrated in the collections of art museums and within artistic discourse.
Die Geburt der Hygiene / The Birth of the Hygienic documents Meschtschanow's sculptural installations and provides an insight on how his forms evolve. With an interview by Ilaria Gianni and a text by Oliver Kossack.
