Srdjan Jovanovic Weiss

Srdjan Jovanović Weiss was born in former Yugoslavia and now lives and works between New York and Berlin. He started as an avid swimmer and mathematician. Today he practices research architecture working on special projects in spatial, special and missing cultures. He founded NAO.NYC (Normal Architecture Office) for design and co-founded SMS (School of Missing Studies) for experimental study of cities marked by or currently undergoing abrupt transition. He lectures globally in museums, universities and public venues, and he served as visiting professor at Columbia, Cornell, Penn and Harvard universities

Selected books include Socialist Architecture: The Reappearing Act (The Green Box Berlin, 2017); Socialist Architecture: The Vanishing Act (JRP Ringier, 2012, with Armin Linke); Almost Architecture (Merz & Solitude Akademie, 2006); Evasions of Power: On the Architecture of Adjustment (ed., Slought, 2008); and Lost Highway Expedition (ed., School of Missing Studies, 2007). Weiss’ forthcoming book: Better than Weather: On The Human Desire for Artificial Climate as a result of his art residency at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impacts Research by DAAD Berlin will be published in the Spring of 2022 by The Green Box, Berlin.
